I was hoping to in May 2009 ... but you never know what sort of interruptions one may find. Sometimes I'm afraid I only understand worldly ambition.

Sometimes we are guilty of segregating our time for God from the time we must spend working or learning. I think the key is not in making more time for God but instead, allowing God into all of our time. If all of our time belongs to God then we know that even the interruptions are a part of His plan for us each day. Then we see them rightly and know that no time has been waisted. It is much less stressful when we know that the tasks of the day flow from God and that our lives are to be lived as He presents it to us each day. It takes a load off! It also has to power to radically change our lives!

I think at 25 you understand more than most who are your age. God has blessed you in many ways. Just remember that God has made time for all that He wants you to experience in this life.

Anyway, I'm getting old and I keep catching myself handing out advise. Take what fits and throw the rest away.

Hi JoyIndestructible,

That is some good advice. Believe it or not, I am definitely a person who has gone out of his way to find good advice. In college my goal was to find the best System to give me advice, but I learned the best advice comes from those hard-to-find people who have examined their own lives and know what advice they need to follow. And I do find you to be such a person.

I shouldn't measure the quality of my relationships by measuring how much time each day I spend in them, but sometimes it seems like all my time is lost (prodigally) in vain pursuits. And I definitely need to guard against segregating the important things out of my life! Less duplicity ... more devotion ...

This blog has become like a dialogue between you two, makes for some very nice reading. I don't know if you've told me this before but what are you studying burningbush? I may be graduating the same year. I'm lucky in that university has allowed me to spend time learning about the things i'm passionate about (with alot of stupid maths along with it, unfortunately), and hopefully turn that into a career.

At the same time, I don't really see myself being that happy at graduation day. An accomplishment yes, but i'll miss it dearly.

Hi Tim,

Thanks again for stopping by.

You will always have my sympathy for having to do math in college. Right now I'm 3 classes from getting my masters in computer science and my company is picking up the tab, but I'm afraid the time it takes is very costly. I hope to graduate in one year (May 05'). Your classes are probably on a different schedule though, no?

I'm glad you're learning material that you are passionate about. I'm not passionate about computer science, but I find that I can do my work in a passionate way ... and I did get to study the Bible in college, which I am very passionate about.

I can't remember ... are you a political science major? I hope the job part goes well because I bet that's a domain with very few openings ... not sure.

I've been getting a lot out of JoyIndestructible's posts, it's true. What really impresses me about her is the way she expresses so much care for people -even the ones she doesn't agree with. She's not out to solve the world's problems, but she does care about her neighbor. I have a lot to learn about that I'm afraid.

Yeah, the academic year here (Australia) ends late november. I'm doing a double degree in political science and economics. Speaking of the bible in college, this semester as an elective i'm doing a subject from the ancient history department called "The New Testament in it's times". It has been incredible, I have learnt an awful lot. The historical aspects to the Bible is where most my gaps in knowledge come from, and it's great to look at these topics from a scholarly historical perspective. When i'm on semester break I should have alot of nice topics to write about for the blog.

I can understand what you're saying about computer science. I am somewhat of a nerd myself; I got planted in front of a computer when I was 5 and have barely left since haha. I almost did computer science as a degree but decided against it at the last minute.

Even though I am studying alot of things I am interested in, when my degree is over I will most likely (at least in the beginning) have to take a job that involves alot of boring numbers and doing analysis that won't really help people. If only we all had a large inheritance to live off like kierkegaard!

Lastly, I know what you mean about focusing on your neighbour instead of the world's problems. I'm probably the most guilty of this. In my head i'm there, but I don't really come across as unconditionally loving or any of the radical qualities you find Jesus preaching about. It's very humbling to read a verse like John 13:35, "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Too funny. I'd like to fantasize about myself spending an inheritance like Soren, but I don't think I would live up to that if it happened :(

"The historical aspects to the Bible is where most my gaps in knowledge come from, and it's great to look at these topics from a scholarly historical perspective."

Yeah, that can be helpful. If you're ever looking for an existential way to see history in the gospels, you should consider checking out Philosophical Fragments. Climacus examines the question of who has the advantage: the man who hears the words from Christ's mouth or those of us living today.

Thanks for sharing the verse. I'm looking forward to reading your posts in late November.

Yeah I have fragments. I liked it, but honestly I much preferred the unscientific postscript to the book!

A new post will hopefully be alot sooner than november. Although the year at uni finishes late november, it's separated into two semesters, and the first semester ends in a couple of weeks. Maybe i'll get around to writing in the next couple of days even.
