Hi BB,

The first thing that comes into my mind in response to these words are glittering Hollywood idols, all they promise and all that they represent. These modern day objects of worship embody all that current American culture values and all that is destroying us as a people and as a nation.

We would do well to turn from our idols and our vices for what they promise ends only in death.

I find it interesting that 'glittering Hollywood' is the first thing that comes to your mind when Augustine lived around 1500 years ago. One of my professors at college told us Augustine preached a sermon for three hours so his congregation wouldn't go to the play across the street.

"And when you pray, do not be like the actors, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men."
